I just got back from our annual Kentucky Lake trip. 11 years and going strong! This group of women were among the teachers I first worked with at Central Academy which was known as the Alternative Education Center when I started. Who knew that at-risk kids could bring people together like this! We all have a lot of life under our belts since that first trip and usally our first day is spent getting all caught up.
We've come a long way from hauling food and adult beverages (always WAY more than we could consume over a three-day period) to arriving with clothes and swim gear in hand and eating out! We run to the local Wal Mart and pick up miscellaneous things we might need, but suffice to say, we have gotten a whole lot better at NOT dragging everything we own with us anymore.
Celebrating life could be our yearly theme. Weddings, babies, master's degrees, and promotions were among our first celebrations. Now we have moved toward retirements, grandchildren, doctorates, and new jobs.
We are there for each other through all of life's joys and challenges. Losses, health issues, and all the twists and turns of each of our crazy lives. We call ourselves "The Bitches" (lol don't judge!) We are a tough crew, seven strong, intelligent women who have each other's backs and always had the backs of our at-risk students.
I miss working with these women every day, but I cherish our time together. One day I'm going to write a book about our crazy lake trips. Cheers Ladies! Here's to 12 next year!
